“The Heavenly Man”

heavenly-contrast1.jpgIf you enjoy reading Christian biographies I strongly encourage you to read “The Heavenly Man.”  I’ve been extremely challenged and encouraged as I’ve read through it this past week. It’s the remarkable true story of Brother Yun, a Chinese Christian man whom God has used to mightily preach the gospel despite horiffic opposition and persecution.  One of the things that intrigued me most was his eager longing for the Bible as a young believer.  After praying and fasting for months to receive a Bible of his own, he finally received one through miraculous means.  Upon receiving it, these were his words …

I clutched my new Bible to my heart and fell down on my knees outside the door.  I thanked God again and again!  I promised Jesus from that moment on I would devour his Word like a hungry child.

Oh how I take my Bible for granted.  I want to be like Brother Yun and Jeremiah when he cried out, “Your words were found and I ate them, and your words became to me a joy and the delight of my heart, for I am called by your name, O LORD, God of hosts.” (Jer. 15:16)

Dont know if you are aware of this, but some of the stories in this book have been called into question. I cant remember who uncovered this, but some credibility is lacking.

nevertheless, i’ve heard it is inspiring.

I did not know this … However, God has already used his story and the Scriptures he shared to awaken my heart to the complacency I feel with the Word and my witness for Christ and for that I am so thankful. The Western church often puts God in a box (as do I) and this book is like fresh air … it breathes the kind of child-like faith you had when you were a young believer and all you knew is that you had to have more of the Word and you had to share Jesus with people because you were filled with so much joy.
