Amen! Be a friend of sinners. As long as we don't go with them to sin, there is plenty of things, places etc. that we can go to befriend them, just as Jesus did.
Grace to you,
Richard

Mark, you hit on something that I think we often forget. It's not so much our outward appearance and relevance but our inward character and love that attracts the unbelieving world to Jesus. The more we abide in Jesus the more we will become like him in his compassion for others. We need to be known more for what we do instead of what we don't do. Like Piper once said, "No one is impressed when we merely obey the law ... but they will take notice when we lay down our lives for others."

Doug,
It is great that you are considering all of this so much. I agree with Spurgeon that we need to be exemplary Christians so that the world would want to ask us questions about what we have. (Not try to conform to the world so that they will think Christians are "cool".) I like the Jesus of Nazareth movie and how they represent Jesus having fellowship with "sinners". The people were so caught up with Jesus' love and compassion and integrity that they were willing to listen. They didn't care that he didn't fit in to their culture. They were happy just to be loved by him.
