To the church folk he may not be expounding sufficiently, but to a pagan group it becomes a authentic connecting point. What I would say is that it is pre-evangelism. And I think in those terms and outworking, the Bell method can be completely useful. If he was at a church at 11:15 on Sunday morning then I would have different expectations. But he is not. He is using some of the most secular venues to begin a conversation about faith. I think we are not seeing what Bell is really doing. It's good to see that we weren't the only ones discerning. The groupies in lookalike costumes clearly aren't! Bell is a universalist, but because he is clearly brilliant and the best orator I have ever seen, it's not obvious. "love and grace" seem to be the moving forces with some only leaving me still waiting for the punch line. Often my husband and I will stop and ask, "what was missing?" often feeling like the meal was filling but the main course was missing... the meat- or if we had meat it lacked... salt!
