Remembering Children in Your Sermon Planning

As we think about all the types of people we preach to on Sundays, don’t forget the children. They may be the biggest group of unreached people in your church…and I guarantee when you get on their level, the adults will be tracking right there with you.
Spurgeon once said:

Thanks, Doug, for your consistent focus on children and your unwillingness to allow us to see them merely as “necessary inconveniences” in ministry. They need to be trained in righteousness every bit as much as adults. When we leave this to happen only via means other than the preached word, we condition them to devalue the preached word.
I love the Spurgeon quote and am reminded of another: “If there be any doctrine too difficult for a child, it is rather the fault of the teacher’s conception of it than of the child’s power to receive it, provided that child be really converted to God.” (from Come Ye Children, pg. 10).

Pete, thanks for your encouragement. And thanks for sharing that great quote! The Come Ye Children book I believe is an adapted version of Spurgeon’s Spiritual Parenting from which I got the quote above. Good stuff!
