Doug Down Deep (#2)

by Doug Wolter

I’m not that deep.  But I want to think deeply and say things simply.  Here’s another little quote I’ve been thinking about and wanting to live out this summer.

The “missing link” between the instruction of God’s Word and the application of God’s Word is the meditation of God’s Word.

The times that I have stopped to really chew on what I’ve read, I have come away with both a better understanding of the passage and a greater desire to live it out.  Joshua 1:8 says …

This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it.  For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.

So brothers and sisters, if you’re like me with a mind that’s always on the move and ready to ”check off the boxes,” I encourage you this summer to slow down with me and meditate on God’s Word.

Doug Down Deep

by Doug Wolter

In an attempt to not take myself too seriously, and yet at the same time, think deeply, I’ve decided to start a new segment on my blog called, “Doug Down Deep.”  Some readers may notice that I borrowed the title from Josh Harris’ new book, Dug Down Deep.  I heard Harris speak on this topic (at T4G) and it was very helpful.  My version will not be a book … I’m not that deep, but just short snippets of wisdom to pass along from time to time.  So without further ado, here’s my first little quote I used to explain to 6th graders their sinfulness and Christ’s goodness in the story of the pharisee and the tax collector.

“Instead of thinking that you are good, you need to know that you are bad, and trust the one who really is good.”
